After access to the Internet became more widespread and users were more commonly using always-on connections like those obtained from cable or DSL, application developers began to include components in their programs that would automatically contact their servers upon launch. This feature (sometimes referred to as “calling home”) is used for a variety of purposes, including to check the version of the user’s software against the most up-to-date version on the server or to send usage and statistical information to the developers. Privacy concerns have led some users to search for ways to block applications from calling home, and many firewalls have the capability to do this.
1. Find the location of Photoshop CS4. On a Windows PC, Photoshop CS4 defaults to installing at C:\Program Files\Adobe\ Adobe Photoshop. On Mac OS X, the program defaults to installing at /User/Library/Applications/Adobe Photoshop.
2.
Step 2
Access your system’s firewall. Both Windows and Mac OS X come with their own firewalls, or you may use one of a variety of free and commercial firewall and outbound communication blockers.
3.
Step 3
Access your firewall’s outbound communications tab. Firewalls traditionally block two paths of communication: inward and outward. To stop Photoshop CS4 from calling Adobe, you must stop its outward communication.
4.
Step 4
Add the Photoshop CS4 application to your firewall’s blacklist by manually entering its location or dragging and dropping the application into the blacklist.
5.
Step 5
Press “OK” to save your changes.
Tips & Warnings
*
With outbound communication blocked, Photoshop CS4 will no longer provide you with alerts when there is a patch for your software available or when one of your filters or add-ons have been updated. You must manually check for patches or temporarily remove Photoshop CS4 from your firewall’s blacklist to restore this functionality.
If you have any type of object drawing, i.e., circle, square, rectangle etc., nothing gives it a nice affect than the drop shadow. It makes the object appear as if it was floating off your computer monitor. Here is how you add a dropshadow to an object in Adobe Photoshop CS4.
1. Launch Adobe Photoshop CS4 and open a new project. I selected “web” for my preset to give me enough room for this tutorial. However, you can choose whatever you wish as the steps are the same.
2.
Step 2
Select one of the object drawing tools from your tools panel. For this tutorial I selected the “rounded rectangle tool” as shown in the picture associated with this step.
3.
Step 3
Draw your object onto the stage. I selected a white fill color with a dark border to make my object standout when I go to add my dropshadow in the next step. You will also notice that Adobe Photoshop CS4 automatically creates a new layer for you and places you object on that layer.
4.
Step 4
In the layers panel you will notice an icon that says “fx”. Click that icon and on the menu that pops up, choose “Drop Shadow”.
5.
Step 5
The layer style window will appear. Make sure the checkbox next to Drop Shadow is checked on. You can alter the drop shadow with the properties located under the “Drop Shadow” -> “Structure” frames to the right of the checkbox.
Animated GIF images are popular on websites as avatars, titles and other elements. Ranging from humorous animations to strictly informative ones, the animate GIF has a become a great way to transfer clips of video and moving pictures over the Internet in a small, imagelike package. Learn how to make your own animated GIFs with Adobe CS4.
1. Create a Photoshop file that contains each of the elements and pieces you wish to animate. Set each piece on a seperate layer, as GIF animation commonly utilizes turning layers on and off. If animating the movement of an object, it is not necessary to have each frame of movement on a seperate layer, because this will be taken care of by the “Tween” command.
2.
Step 2
Open the “Windows” menu at the top of the screen and select “Animation” to open Photoshop’s animation palette. The first frame of the animation will be visible in the palette. Turn off any layers you do not want to appear in the first frame by clicking the visibility icon next to each one.
3.
Step 3
Create new frames for your animation one at a time by clicking the “New Frame” icon at the bottom of the animation palette. For each, turn off or on any layers you wish to appear or disappear in a given frame.
4.
Step 4
Animate the movement of an object by moving the object to its final destination in the image window, then selecting “Tween” from the pop-up menu of the animation palette. Select the number of frames you wish to be created, and the time that each frame should be visible. Click “OK,” and Photoshop will automatically animate the object.
5.
Step 5
Export your animate GIF image by selecting “Save for Web….” Be sure that the file type is set to .GIF.
We have all taken pictures and invariably you will at some point get red eye. Red eye is when the flash from the camera creates the color red in the person’s (who is being photographed)eye. Adobe Photoshop CS4 offers the best and easiest way I have seen to get rid of red eye. Here is how you get rid of red eye in your photos with Adobe Photoshop CS4.
1. Launch Adobe Photoshop CS4 and open the photo that has red eye. Don’t forget to unloack the layer by double clicking the image’s thumbnail in the layers panel then selecting ok on the window that appears.
2.
Step 2
From your tools panel locate the “red eye tool”. The icon looks like an eye with a plus sign just above and to the left. I have circled it in the picture associated with this step.
3.
Step 3
With the red eye tool selected, click on the eye or eyes that have the red eye. You can see a before and after example in the picture associated with this step.
